We do a lot of walking here but the majority of it is on sidewalks and roads. Not up in the mountains surrounded by trees. So for my birthday we did something different, and saw some areas we haven’t seen before.
Since our friend Oscar -who Daniel met on one of his morning walks a couple months ago- is a private guide for people who want to see Panama we asked him to be our guide for a little day trip expedition. We spent the morning hiking in the beautiful tropical region of Alto Quiel, north of Boquete. It was lush and green, cool and breezy and simply beautiful.
We heard the Howler Monkeys from a distance, and Oscar said there were a bunch of them! Much too far away to see, but it sounded amazing.
We searched for the famous and beautiful Quetzal when we heard it sing, but never spotted one.
On the return trip, we stopped at the vines to swing a bit.
Lunch in town was very tasty and cheap! ($5.50 for Daniel and me!) Fried chicken, rice, beans, broccoli, ropa vieja and salad were some of the food items our group selected at the mini cafeteria style restaurant called Nelvis.
